The Craft is a learning opportunity. The grail we all aspire toward, some level of transformation to a better person is unclear, as is the way one achieves it. As you will find, this is not a short-cut. It is a thought map designed to shape behaviour. I"m inclined to think it places us in an atmosphere of arguments about truth. There is room at this table for one more. A new language, emphasis on control of emotion, it is more like finishing school that combat training. MasonicFX is simply and extension of that. An acquired taste where conversation is about possibilities. Sit in as you like. We stumble along, still trying to find the edge of this interesting universe!

Is it possible we know more about ourselves than we reveal to others? We come into masonry riding a desire to improve. We find the company appealing and receptive. Knowing we have been carefully screened changes our status. Ritual endorsement is effortless. Living up to it, with only your own accountability removes any burden. Secrets remain secret. We tell ourselves it's only us meeting expectations. What's a man to do? It's an essential question. Are we talking about the poor boy who is smarter than his environment? Is he the physicial who saved by child? Is it the man coming to terms with his yearnings? He is 'too sensitive'. Best he sits down and keeps quiet? Is it the man from a family of success? Who has no desire to carry on the family lineage? The uneducated, wealthy farmer who fathered Issac Newton? Charles Darwin did not want to be a doctor like his successful well stationed parents. Disappointments. Maybe Lord Byron, abandoned by his father, resentment toward his mother. Was disappointment the stimulant that triggered genius? If we compare, we are on that continuum of brilliance. No amount of rationalization changes it. So pardon me for sensing that there are pockets, caveats within freemasonry where the tendency is fear of a great unknown- fear of inner capacity. Will I be liked by friends? Will I be accepted by family? I am the priest sworn to an ethical presence, yet I violated oaths and became a Freemason. There is my secret. No one controls the narrative of life. We experience life as it occurs. No on predicts tomorrow. No one predicts death and dying. it is what it is. More the reason to explore your fabric. Let's assume there is a surprise lingering in each of us. If you're prone to misanthropy it's unlikely you're a regular participant. Best we keep it that way. For the rest of us, have you noticed life is bittersweet. Wish you had known earlier?

It was insight about the need, appeal and the vigilance of men seeking to use the opportunity that brought Freemasonry from the highlands of Scotland into the hands of ambitious builders. By professing a standard of living based on ethics... more

Perhaps society is most often limited by what we do not say and do not do, rather than our actions and words. Take for example the convergence of two phenomena; one biological, one created by humans- illness of the brain/mind... more

Once we past the fascination with the administration of Freemasonry, is there a subtext? And if there is, what is it? Recently I listened to a fellow being interviewed about Freemasonry and he stumbled over the question of gender... more

Daming with praise. It's a phrase I've heard over the years but never gave it much thought. That is until I began noticing some odd outcomes in Lodges. I found the mathematics wasn't adding up. Let me explain. A few years ago I sat through a... more

We aspire. I know we do, because it says so in the Fellow Craft ritual. It says we hope to ascend. Not that the rest makes sense but if you think about it, really think about it- it does make sense. I wasn't there during the thoughtful... more

The benefits of living a Masonic life are too often left opaque. Perhaps it is thought that articulating would be like describing G-d or defining motivation to the creator. Human minds are incapable of such efforts after all. But benefits do... more

Is conflict more than human conceit? Is it a natural artifact of a community? With the benefits of predictability comes a price, a need to willingly comply. The way this was put by a poet- feeling comfortable in harness- is the way a gentleman... more

Today. How can something produced in the human mind remain constant throughout the universe? The laws of motion explained by Issac Newton are a constant. But these same laws apply to all the distant galaxies. Math permeates... more

Did you know our Order has appealed to men with celebrity, rank, and high station? That is an old bromide, but one that has remarkable endurance. Philosophers teach there first-year students about the fallacious argument. I... more
