The Craft is a learning opportunity. The grail we all aspire toward, some level of transformation to a better person is unclear, as is the way one achieves it. As you will find, this is not a short-cut. It is a thought map designed to shape behaviour. I"m inclined to think it places us in an atmosphere of arguments about truth. There is room at this table for one more. A new language, emphasis on control of emotion, it is more like finishing school that combat training. MasonicFX is simply and extension of that. An acquired taste where conversation is about possibilities. Sit in as you like. We stumble along, still trying to find the edge of this interesting universe!

Is it possible we know more about ourselves than we reveal to others? We come into masonry riding a desire to improve. We find the company appealing and receptive. Knowing we have been carefully screened changes our status. Ritual endorsement is effortless. Living up to it, with only your own accountability removes any burden. Secrets remain secret. We tell ourselves it's only us meeting expectations. What's a man to do? It's an essential question. Are we talking about the poor boy who is smarter than his environment? Is he the physicial who saved by child? Is it the man coming to terms with his yearnings? He is 'too sensitive'. Best he sits down and keeps quiet? Is it the man from a family of success? Who has no desire to carry on the family lineage? The uneducated, wealthy farmer who fathered Issac Newton? Charles Darwin did not want to be a doctor like his successful well stationed parents. Disappointments. Maybe Lord Byron, abandoned by his father, resentment toward his mother. Was disappointment the stimulant that triggered genius? If we compare, we are on that continuum of brilliance. No amount of rationalization changes it. So pardon me for sensing that there are pockets, caveats within freemasonry where the tendency is fear of a great unknown- fear of inner capacity. Will I be liked by friends? Will I be accepted by family? I am the priest sworn to an ethical presence, yet I violated oaths and became a Freemason. There is my secret. No one controls the narrative of life. We experience life as it occurs. No on predicts tomorrow. No one predicts death and dying. it is what it is. More the reason to explore your fabric. Let's assume there is a surprise lingering in each of us. If you're prone to misanthropy it's unlikely you're a regular participant. Best we keep it that way. For the rest of us, have you noticed life is bittersweet. Wish you had known earlier?

Overstating concerns is not what the Brotherhood needs to hear. Outlining issues has done little to strengthen our resolve. If we had a shared understanding of the Craft perhaps the dialogue needed to share ideas would have encouraged us to... more

How it works. Filling boxes with books and articles does nothing to heighten the acuity of masonic literacy. I have lost the capability to have sympathy with ideas that are widespread but useless to next generations of brethren, just as I... more

Historians called it Bonfire of the Vanities. In the 15th century the Medici had already demonstrated a liberality that at the time was unnerving for Christian extremists, was taken to accounts by an outspoken dominican monk. This is a... more

You might think it impertenent of me to bring this up. But I feel compelled and will explain myself fully and hope to your completest satisfaction. Where I am a freemason, like you, I experience the effects of masonry on people around me... more

It is an old ploy widely known. Work from facts and draw conclusions? Work from conclusions and find facts to substantiate. Given the hundreds and thousands of well preserved opinion pieces available to us, doing the latter is... more

How is it that living without a past is fraught? If I took to heart the advice contemporary, living in the moment I would find comfort not in the avoidance of past but in acknowledging it is not a priority until I choose it so. History,... more

Speculative freemasonry is if nothing, an anecdote to present day cynicism for a small group within the wider body of masonry. Once we remove extremism and zealotry, it provides followers with a calculus, unfamiliar to moderns; a... more

It seems we have let ourselves be influenced by a concept called speculative freemasonry, brought into a brotherhood created by literati. As idealized as it was, it recognized genius and integrity, distinguished worthy and unworthy as a... more
