Bob Arum has made boxing headlines again with less than a week to go before his cash cow Manny Pacquiao takes on Jessie Vargas by bringing up the 3-belt holder Gennady Golovkin as a possible foe.
“Who the hell knows what can happen [against Vargas]? He may have such a senatorial presence in the fight that we might be looking for Golovkin next," Arum told Boxing Scene ."If he doesn't vote right in the Senate, some of his constituents might urge him to fight Golovkin next."
In other news regarding potential future opponents for Pacquiao, rising prospect Errol Spence was shot down by Arum, an opponent that even ESPN’s “First Take” mentioned as a deserving foe.
"Errol Spence looks like he’s going to be a terrific fighter, he really does. But he hasn’t really proven himself. He hasn’t fought for a world title yet. He hasn’t fought some of the best fighters in the welterweight division. Can he possibly rise to the top? Can he beat a [Danny] Garcia? Can he beat a [Keith] Thurman? We don’t know. Probably yes. But the truth is he’s a terrific prospect, but he’s still a prospect. He's still a prospect. Maybe, maybe he has the goods to rise to the top,” Arum said to Boxing Scene.
