With the recent arrival of forty-four-year-old former heavyweight champion Shannon Briggs to the UK last week and seeing all the attention that he got from the UK boxing fans and press, is this an indication of just how big boxing has become in the United Kingdom. Briggs, who hasn’t fought a big name opponent in years and is far from being in his prime, had a sit-down meeting with the largest promoter in the UK, Eddie Hearn, to discuss possible future fights. Among the names mentioned were Anthony Joshua, David Haye, and Tyson Fury. Briggs had expressed having trouble getting big fights in the United States and said to Hearn that he wants to make Great Britain his new home. Hearn expressed doing long term business with the American-born heavyweight.
