It's hard to get over an ex. It's hard to get past what an ex may have done to you, or the way that they may have made you feel. It's double or triple times harder to get over an ex that has done you wrong when you have to still have dealings with an ex, because you have a child, or children with them. This is a situation that so many people have to deal with and so many people handle it differently. Some people refuse to deal with their exes, for any reason, even if it means that the children will not be able to see their dad, or mom again, or for a long time. Some people make a good effort to be mature and deal with their exes, sometimes that load becomes too heavy to bear.
