It's Christmas time again and all over the world, children will be lead to believe that a fat, jolly white man will deliver them presents, by reindeer driven sleigh, if they were good this year. As we get older, many of us have abandoned the decision to have our kids believe in such a character like that. Many have made an alternative decision to tell their kids the complete truth about the way things are and how they really happen. That can be a good thing, or it can be an irresponsible thing. It can be a good thing because the belief that a child will understand the way that the world works and building a foundation of trust between parent and child is important. It can be an irresponsible thing because a child isn't always ready to process the information that adults can, with the same ease. As we know, a lot of adults can't deal with the realities of life very well either. Children should be told the truth, but their age and maturity should be taken into consideration also. We should probably take a child through the process of the truth, rather than getting them from the beginning to the end too fast. Should a child know that the reason that he/she has a stepparent is because their biological father would not marry his/her mom when she became pregnant? There are probably better ways to handle that situation and others. Let's look at some.
That's what we're talking about tonight at 7PM ET on The Daily Gogetemism Show. Check this out: https://youtu.be/2g2oSxiktAI
