Windfall~
Winning the Lottery! This conjures up so many thoughts about how you could spend that money. Houses, cars, entertainment, travel, are all things that could enrich your life should 'win the lottery'. There is one statistic that is sobering in this regard; most lottery winners are broke after 10 years. This is sad but true. When people that have little get a lot they often end up right back where they were when 'fortune struck'.
This is human nature, that when given a reward that is undeserved or unearned, that reward means as much as it cost to the person receiving it, i.e. nothing.
And this failure falls primarily to motivation. Often the first thing that a person does when they win the lottery is that they quit their job. After all, why work when you can just go out and buy what you need, and not have to worry about a paycheck. For many, their identity is the predicate for who they are, and their identity falls on what they do more than who they are. The most fortunate of people are what they do. This is called 'vocation'. My father was a physician, but being a physician was not just WHAT he did, it was WHO he was. He LOVED helping people have a better life my helping them recover from disease. We (his children) had to finally pull the plug on his medical career when he was 85 years old, simply to give him the chance to know the joy of not working.
Jesus was the ruler of the universe when He made His appearance on earth. Money cannot calculate His net worth, both in 'things' and in simply who He was. Being CREATOR/Savior is/was His vocation, it is who He is. He could have given up on us (the world) and simply started over had He been someone other than who He is. His motivation for doing what He did for His Kingdom was that He could not save His creation without bringing Truth to earth.
If we are to be saved our vocation must be HIs.
