Emergency preparations~

Todays TV news showed video of severe wild fires here in California. Essentially, the town of Paradise in Butte County has been burned to the ground.  This tragedy is more poignant because it appears that the parents of my son's fiance live in Paradise,and they had to evacuate this afternoon, and it is highly likely that their house and property has been destroyed by the flames. Everyone got out safely, except for one of their cats, that was not at home when they had to leave. This situation started me thinking about emergency preparedness. What if my wife and I had to evacuate in with 10 minutes notice; what would we take with us. The animals, certainly. Family pictures that are not in the cloud, absolutely. Water, food, clothes, pet food, medicine, a half tank of gas in the cars, so we could get away as fast as possible; all would be important. 

When this kind of situation happens we think about what is most important, and plan on saving those things. But the most important thing is that we leave with enough time to save our own lives, even if it is only with the clothes on our backs.

Should we not put at least the same amount of effort into planning on saving our eternal lives? How do we go about doing that? If it is just 'by grace' then why would we need to plan for anything at all? If grace is all we need then why was Jesus so adamant about learning the words of His Father in order to be "Sanctified" by the Truth?

Truth is what will save us into the Kingdom of God, not grace. If we haven't packed our minds with His words, and practiced the Truth in order to come to the light John3:19-21 then why did Jesus spend a whole year teaching His disciples those words, so they could write them down so we could have them for ourselves. The time to evacuate is near at hand; have you packed the right things to be saved?
