Healing Journeys with Michael Kovarik

Bret Miller was a typical 17-year old guy. A senior in high school, on the football team, working at the pool and ice rink, everything was going well until the day he scratched his chest and felt a lump behind his right nipple. His doctors felt it was a calcium build up and that it would go away. Seven years later, Bret was diagnosed with breast cancer.  The cancer was caught early and classified as Stage 1. Following a mastectomy, Bret had four rounds of chemotherapy and today he is five years cancer free. Bret made a promise to his surgeon that no man would ever feel alone when hearing the words, “You have breast cancer.” With the help of his parents, Peggy and Bob Miller, Bret started The Bret 1T Foundation. The foundation’s goals are to raise awareness in colleges and high schools, informing all that breast cancer can happen to anyone. In 2013, Bret connected with Cheri Ambrose through social media and together they created The Male Breast Cancer Coalition. The Coalition’s mission is to let everyone know that breast cancer does not discriminate. Providing support, resources, and information to men and their families is a priority at MBCC. Bret is also part of the Coalition’s upcoming documentary on male breast cancer called, Men Have Breasts Too. Today, Bret’s goals and mission is to spread the word that men can get breast cancer, too!

Peggy Miller is a mom who received a call saying that her son Bret had breast cancer. Determined that no other family experience what her family faced with Bret’s journey, Peggy and her husband Bob, along with Bret started The Bret 1T Foundation
