There is one verse in Scripture that was aware of that might say this: In Genesis 3, God says to Eve that one of the conseequences of the Fall was that her desire would be for her husband, and he would rule over her.

How do you explain Deborah, Esther, Priscilla, Phoebe, let alone a host of other women God has used in positions of leadership down through the pages of history?

Until recent times when throughout Europe, the Middle East, and Asia were unable to have any influence over the politics, religion or culture. They couldn't own property or inherit land and wealth, and they were frequently treated as mere property themselves.

Women had no property or political rights and were forbidden to leave their homes after dark. They were unable to take part in social events and they were only allowed to leave their homes with their husband or a male relative.
