In 2013, Jimmy Garoppolo won the Walter Payton Award winner and earned the 2013 FCS National Offensive Player of the Year, named OVC Offensive Player of the Year. He led all NCAA Division I players in passing yards and touchdown passes and named National Player of the Week two times (SIU & ISU games). Garoppolo became EIU career leader in pass completions versus Illinois State and has set EIU and OVC records for career passing yards, career total offense and career touchdown passes, Garoppolo proved to NFL Scouts to be worthy of his invite the the East West Shrine Game which he turned into another invite to the Senior Bowl with his excellent play.
