YSU finished 6-5 last season in the Missouri Valley Football Conference and expectations are high in the Steel Valley of Youngstown, OH with the team the Penguins are retuning to action for the 2012 season.

One player who should see his role and produciton increase is converted 2010 safety turned tight end Will Shaw. Shaw originally started his career at YSU as a safety where he finished his final year at safety with 48 tackles and one interception starting eight of eleven games before switching to tight end in 2011.

When you want to talk about making the most of your opportunities Shaw is your man. Last season his first learning the tight end position at the collegiate level he hauled in eight passes for 200 yards and three touchdowns. Three of his eight total catches found their way into the end zone! The native of Baltimore, MD average 25 yards per catch with a long of 52. Still not convinced Shaw is a big-play weapon? Take into consideration his 87 yard interception in 2010 ranks fourth longest in school history. When the ball finds it way into his hands, good things happen, it’s that simple. Shaw took time after practice to discuss the YSU Penguins up-coming season with College2Pro.com
