The school motto is 'Discover Gold' and the Griffons have found it with sack artist David Bass from Missouri Western State (6'3 258) who broke a school record in 2011 with 20 tackles-for-loss and taking down the opposing quarterback 14.5 which was one shy of the single season school record.

After finishing 9-3 overall and 7-2 in the MIAA the Griffons along with their talented defensive end Bass are ready to set aim of the conference title.

The Missouri Western State University football team had three players named to the 2012 USA Football News Division II Pre-Season All-Americans.

The three Griffons consist of one defensive player, one offensive player and a special teamer. Senior defensive end David Bass and junior punter Scott Groner were named to the first team while senior offensive lineman Macon Allan was named to the third team.
