The Phil Savage era is underway at the Senior Bowl.  Savage was formally introduced as the fifth executive director in the game's 62-year history at a press conference on May 2nd and officially took the reins on June 1st.

A native of Mobile, AL Savage brings and impressive resume that includes over 19 years of experience that includes being the top man for the Cleveland Browns as their GM and most recently working with the Philadelphia Eagles as their player personnel executive. His hiring was acknowledged as a homerun from NFL general managers, college head coaches and NFL draft experts, due to his vast knowledge of the game both on and off the field. Many agree that his NFL background, college connections and the fact that he's from the area make this hire a perfect fit.

Savage has already made headlines with some new ideas that would allow juniors into the Senior Bowl if they meet certain criteria. In order to participate in the Senior Bowl, a junior would have to declare early for the NFL Draft, graduate by December, have spent four seasons with his collegiate program and get the blessing of his collegiate coach.

With redshirt and eligibility issues in college football, the line is often blurred between which players are juniors and which are seniors. Any player that meets the above requirements would qualify for the game.

Listen in with Phil Savage as he talks Senior Bowl the 2012 NFL Draft Class and much more.
