An anomaly of rock artists when they started in the Summer of Love in 1967 with the release of their first album, but yet not a part of the San Francisco scene, or the growing folk rock scene in Los Angeles, or even part of the response to the British Invasion, the Doors blazed their own path in the pantheon of rock.  In only a four year period (1967-1971) they released six studio albums, a live album, and a compilation with a list of memorable songs.   Through the years, the Rock and Roll "establishment" seemed uncomfortable with the Doors, their success, and their mournful yet beautiful music. They were often viewed as simply too heavy for the critics, who covertly resented that they could be simultaneously mysterious yet so wildly popular. Although snubbed in many ways for their place in the history of rock, the Doors were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1993 and yet probably they were the last ones to care about their snubs, rivals, and awards.
