Muslims stay away. We are going to discuss this week what those who lived with and prayed with your prophet believed and how they applied those lessons taught by Muhammad.
Sunday we will be discussing “The Pact of Umar”. This is an agreement – supposedly – between the Christians/Jews and the 2nd Caliph Umar in Jerusalem in 639A.D. In this agreement the Jews and Christians were made to “submit and feel themselves subdued” (Quran 9:29 stuff). It is odd that this part of the Quran would be used to justify this “Pact” if Islam is truly peaceful and seeks to “guide humanity to equality and justice and tolerance for those of other religions…” (Imam Kenny Bomer, Consider Islam, page 96). Sunday we are going to “consider” if this true or not.
It is going to be some great fun and some great discussion. Come join us!
