Jean Isbell founded the mission (Cruzada del Evangelio de Honduras) in Honduras in 1964. She was a single parent with three children without support of any established church or denomination. The original work was started on the southeast side of the island of Roatan, (Islas de la Bahia) in the village of Oak Ridge. Roatan is approximately 30 miles north of the mainland of Honduras. Sister Jean, as everyone called her, went to train a small group of ladies who were not aware of what the Bible had to say in regards to them raising their families according to the Christian principles spoken of in the Bible. She had no church or home to go to and only $75/month to feed her family.
