Pastor Anthony AW Mays

Pastor A. W. Anthony Mays was born in Taylor, Texas and was reared in Round Rock, Texas. He accepted Christ and was baptized at Sweet Home Baptist Church in Round Rock. In 1969, Pastor Mays accepted his call into the ministry. Pastor Mays attended the public schools of Round Rock Independent School District and became the first African-American to attend the newly integrated Round Rock High School. He was recently recognized at the Round Rock Independent School District on the 50th Anniversary Celebration commemorating his desegregation. After high school, he continued his education at the University of Texas, where he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English. Further study was undertaken by Pastor Mays at the Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas.

Over the years, Pastor Mays has served in a number of religious and community positions. He is the former moderator of the East Texas Baptist Association, he served as Vice President of the Texas Baptist Congress of Christian Workers, and, he is past president of the Baptist Ministers’ Union of Austin, Texas. Pastor Mays has also served as Branch President of the NAACP in Wichita Falls, Texas; Home Rule Charter Commissioner of Round Rock, Texas and Planning and Zoning Commissioner of Tyler, Texas.
