SIGNS AND WONDERS
"Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father." John 14:12
A miracle is the occurrence of any event contradictory to and unexplainable by the laws of science usually attributed to God. Many signs and wonders occurred in the time of the Old Testament and New Testament.
But we are not to seek a sign (Matt 12:38-39; 16:4). Scripture says that signs are to follow us (Mk 16:17), not we the signs. Gideon thought God had forsaken His people because of the lack of miracles in their midst (Judg 6:13 "If the Lord be with us ... where be all His miracles?"). We are not to have an over-dependence on the miraculous, that we lose sight of the Lord Himself.
Nevertheless, some – despite the miracles done in their midst--still refused to repent and believe. Exo chapters 7:12 (Pharaoh) Matt 11:20-21 (Chorazin and Bethsaida)
People are easily impressed with the spectacular. Scripture says that the crowds in Jesus' day "marveled" and were "greatly astonished" at the things done in their midst.
