March is at its midpoint so those who celebrate in March have only 15 days left so we advise you to celbrate each one The fans and friends of Caribbean Global Voices will celebrate with you right here on the Saturday Morning Entertainment Show. We also convey our condolences to those who have lost loved ones. In particular to the family of Nester Prentice of the Camps, Fountain, New Castle and Mt. Lily community and to the family of Irving Boncamper of the Charlestown community. While we greet and celebrate we also have a conversation, so Let's Talk.
Six Eighth graders from the Southwick suburb of Springfield Massachusetts have been arrested and charged criminally over racist comments they made in an online chat. Allegedly, their conversation include threats, racial slurs, derogatory images and videos and a mock slave auction targeting two juveniles of colour. Of Course the usual platitudes follow. There is an urgent need to discuss the cause of racism and confront it head-on. Hatred and racism have no place in our community. We need to have a conversation about the factors that cause the perpetuation of such attitudes and discuss comprehensive strategies to address systemic racism. Should these juveniles be arrested and charged criminally? How do you define racism and what is the reason it has persisted in this society for so long? Who should be held responsible for the perpetuation of racism generally and for the actions of these juveniles specifically? Come on in. Join the conversation let us know what your think or tell us know what you want to talk about. We are always happy to hear from you.
