We are already gone past the middle of February. You better believe it. For those who celebrate Valentine's Day, we hope you made it a great one. Those who celebrated Carnival in Trinidad, Brazil and and all other place we hope you made it a great one as well. And Monday is the day when many American celebrate President's day. And did you know that Frederick Douglas was born somewhere between February 14 and 16 in 1818. This is why Dr. Carter G. Woodson started Black History week in February. Contrary to popular belief they did not give us the shortest month for Black History. We have just chosen not to visit our history every day. And that's part of the reason why we are in so much trouble. So let's talk about that a bit.
Black History records the history and culture of Black people, particularly Africans, because Africa is the origin of the earliest human civilization. Europeans extracted much from Africans to cultivate their own civilization even though they want to promote themselves as the original architects of civilization. Black History also records the history of the relationship between Africans and Europeans. This relationship was shaped by a system of violent oppression and savagery orchestrated and adminsitered by Europeans and covers a period which at least spans the last six centuries. Europeans do not want to hear the truth about this period of history so they are trying to make sure the story is not told. This is an added insult to 600 yrs of injury. But the real tragedy raises the question, Why do Black people continue to seek an identity with Europeans and continue to submit to white authority? This submission suggests that Black actually believe that they are a race with superior capacity of consciousness, intelligence, knowledge and civility?
