It's the second day of September signalling the what is called the Fall season. And guess what? the Global North is getting its taste of the Greatest festival on earth. It's Mas in Notting Hill with the Notting Hill carnival over in the U.K. and its the famous or infamous Labour Day In Brooklyn up there in New York. So let's wish all the reveller's and party go-ers a funfilled time hopefully without any unfortunate incidents. Keep it fun, keep it joyful keep it safe. But things are happpening around the world which do not involve having so much fun or celebration, but should command our attention. So Let's Talk.

For the second time in as many months there is another military coup in Africa. This time in Gabon. This brings it to a total of eight coups in the last three years. Each of these are in countries formerly colonized by France. In Gabon the military seized power and placed the President, Ali Bongo under house arrest after declaring that elections conducted on Saturday August 26, were fraudulent. The election results were announced on Wednesday August 30 declaring that Ali Bongo whose family had held power for 56 years had won a third consecutive term in office. There is a tense stand-off now as the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) supported by the European Union and threating military action in Niger and Gabon. Are these coups justified? Should the European countries have any business interfering in the affairs of African people? Shouldn't Africa's problems be resolved by African people? Come on in and join the conversation or tell us what you want to talk about. We would be glad to hear from you.
