A year ago this week, I lost my beautiful and dear daughter to suicide after a 4 1/2 year battle with Schizophrenia. She was only 3 days shy of her 19th birthday and was robbed of so much of her life. In fighting the battle of mental illness, we found numerous holes in the system. I've already written a 16-page proposal, which I've shared with many local, state and federal politicians, mental health advocates, doctors, law enforcement officers, community leaders, and others, who wish to help improve the way we treat, support and help those who have mental illness or are family and loved ones of those who do.
