There often comes a time in the healing process when there is no alternative but surgery. No one likes to get carved upon, but there are certain actions you can take to ensure the success of the operation. Peggy Huddleston, a graduate of Harvard Divinity School, has developed 5 steps to prepare for this circumstance. She has written a book, _Prepare for Surgery, Heal Faster_, and created a relaxation CD in order to help you take control of this process. The irony is that the best control is established when the individual relinquishes this control. However, doing it it in a very focused, methodical manner (getting out of our own way).

How do we do this? If we can effectively quiet our minds, fears, and stresses; we are in a much better place to heal after the fact. Peggy guides us through visualization, creation of a healing atmosphere, implementing the right mindset (in ourselves and those around us), and fully understanding the process we plan to undergo. For this last step, she suggests talking to the surgeon, anasthesiologist, and others concerned with the operation beforehand. Since most of us know very little about what surgeons actually do to us on the table, one of the steps to prepare involves talking to them.

This show will explore these 5 steps in more detail and offer a way to ensure  effective healing after an operation that we neither want nor fully understand. Even if it is something we want, the individual is almost always unprepared for the scope of the disruption and healing.
