Christy Gardner is a retired Army veteran from Lewiston, Maine. She was injured overseas in 2006 and spent nearly 5 rehabbing before she was finally able to live on her own again and started participating in adaptive sports, thanks to her Service Dog Moxie.
In 2014 Christy founded the New England Warriors Ice Hockey Program. The New England Warriors are a chapter of the USA Warriors, The USA, and New England Warriors are programs designed for the rehabilitation of wounded, ill, and injured service members and veterans. They are a private, non-profit organization dedicated to educating, training, motivating, and encouraging the formation of “USA Warrior Hockey Programs” locally and nationally while encouraging Active Duty Military,
Christy has been training service dogs and therapy dogs for the past nine years but wanted to grow that dream to help more Mainers in need. Mission Working Dogs was founded earlier this year as a local non-profit to do just that. The organization serves to train service dogs and therapy dogs for the local community and hopes to build a new training center next summer.
