Critical Discourse - Brats! Cantor Sings the Blues, Iraq

As further evidence of the unpredictable political landscape in America today, the unpredictable happened - House, GOP Leader Eric Cantor was defeated in the Virginia Primary by little-known Dr. David Brat/ 

To some, the defeat at the hands of a Tea-Party candidate, spells the doom for the GOP, as invariably, Democrats will play the "extreme-right" card, which has been to a great extent, a successful strategy.

In this, the pervasive issue seems to be the contentious issue of immigration "reform", which, with the defeat of Cantor, may in a death spiral.

Also in the news, it seems that Barack Obama's decision to withdraw troops from Iraq, has created a security vacuum, which seems to have been filled by the group, known as ISIS (Islamic State in Iraq and Syria). According to reports, they have managed to take over significant portions of Iraq.

Pressed for a response, Mr. Obama at a press conference on Friday, stated that he would decide on military support for Iraq, in the "days ahead".

What must be considered in this, are the tenuous relations between the Shia and Sunni communities. At 60%, the former are in the majority, with the Prime Minister, Nouri al-Maliki, being one. However, ISIS, purportedly with its origins from Al-Qaeda in Iraq, identifies itself as Sunni.

Clearly, this is a tinderbox, through which only those with level heads, will be able to effectively navigate.

And speaking of immigration, did you hear or read about the immigration problem in Texas? Apparently, there was a drop-off of sorts, mainly children, which has officials here, trying to find the best means of reuniting them with their families. For sure, this issue will be used as a litmus test for some, as a commitment to good will and compassion - more directly put, how far the country takes immigration "reform".
