On this Saturday’s Critical Discourse, we will speak with Pat Smalls, a sister, fighting the “barons”, standing up for her dignity and rights, one  who has been illegally evicted from her co-op in West New York, New Jersey.

It seems that the only difference between her plight and that of an old-skool western movie, is the absence of guns, cattle and horses.

From my initial conversation, her struggle is a microcosm of what we see as a larger effort, under the realm of gentrification, to deprive black people of real-property power. But, in a real sense, the archetypical ranch, complete with water and cattle, is the co-op property, the “henchmen” are the police, enforcing the dictates of the ethically compromised judge.

I felt it proper to allow Pat Smalls to share with us at Critical Discourse, her experiences, challenges, disappointments and a reaching out for help, as she continues onward in her fight to reclaim her property, and for us to appreciate how her plight could become reality for many others.

Please tune in this Saturday, as we walk with her; when the problems began, why, what she’s done thus far and what kind of help she needs from us.

And I want to emphasize that she welcomes challenges or pointed questions. We want to support her, but sometimes, the best way to do this, is to engage in real, live

CRITICAL DISCOURSE!
