Critical Discourse – I’m Sorry?

A lot of tension these days.

First,the “push-button” video which reportedly disparaging of the religion of Islam.

The response in the Middle East has been livid, with angry protests in now, 18 countries, a situation which could spiral into a diplomatic and security crisis for the United States.

And then, the killings in Libya, of the U.S. Ambassador, Chris Stevens and 3 others, from an attack, while attributed by some, to be a part of the response to the “push-button” movie, other motives have not been ruled out.

In response to these events, President Barack Obama made comments, which were seen by some, to be catering to the protesters’ sentiments, though he though he made it clear that violent reactions, even to disrespect of one's religion, is unacceptable. GOP Presidential candidate Mitt Romney, accused Obama of “apologizing for America”, apparently attributing his initial comments to the killings in Libya, when in fact, he was addressing the movie and its aftermath affects.

In all of my sharp and pointed assessments of Obama, it has never escaped me, that there are those who see him as some sort of a member of a “5^th Column”, secretly conspiring with any Muslims who are committed to destroying the United States. I state for the record, I reject that notion, completely.

Strange, but I went through all of this, to come to my central theme, a question I would pose to Mr. Romney or anyone who felt as such, “What’s wrong with America or anyone apologizing for a wrong, committed against individuals or nations”? Am I missing something here?

This is what I want to focus on this Saturday, on Critical Discourse, but we’ll talk at length about the protests in the Middle East, and maybe before this all over, quite a few people will have to say – “I’m sorry”
