I plead the 2^nd – Guns, Violence and Security – at Home and Abroad

This election year is really heating up. We had the tragedy and reaction to the shooting in Aurora, Colorado, then this “gaff” by GOP presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, regarding the 2012 London Olympics (believe me, I’m not putting the two in the same category, but really am wondering, am I the only one?)

At the National Urban League convention in New Orleans, President Obama reasserted of sorts, his commitment to preserving the 2^nd Amendment, which is understood to allow one’s right to own firearms, with limitations, is his view, such as having an AK-47 (Avtomat Kalashnikov), which is essentially a military instrument. Actually, he disappointed quite a few, with his [election-season] “defense” of gun ownership.

As expected, this debate takes on heightened dimensions when tragedies such as Aurora, Columbine or Virginia Tech and Paducah assault our collective consciousness. “Gun control” advocates push for tougher laws preventing firearms ownership, while the “Gun Lobby”, characterized and personified by the National Rifle Association, push back, citing the 2^nd Amendment. Gun-controllers point to societies like Japan, where the police don’t even carry guns, while on the other side, stats are pointed out that indicate a reduction of crime as gun ownership increases.

One thing for certain, no matter what gun, knife or bomb you may possess, even bulletproof armor, none surpasses the Armor of God.
