Viki Winterton interviews Jamie Lankford!
In the 1990s, J R (Jamilla Rhines) Lankford, quit her former job – which involved jetting around the world to oversee the development of world standards for electrical products – to pursue a childhood dream of writing novels.
She is the acclaimed author of the The Jesus Thief series which consists of The Jesus Thief, The Secret Madonna, and The Sacred Impostor, about an attempt to clone Jesus of Nazareth using DNA stolen from the Shroud of Turin.
Lauded by pioneer cloning scientist, the late Dr. Robert H. Foote of Cornell, and by Booklist in a starred review, the series has twice been optioned for film. Translation rights to all three books recently sold to major Portuguese, Russian, and Turkish publishers.
A fourth book in the series, The Covert Messiah is underway. She has written one murder mystery, Murder Without Motive.
Like most novelists, Lankford read her way through her childhood. Later in life, she became an Electrical Engineer then studied International Business at the University of Chicago.
In her former career in international standards, Lankford traveled the world, falling in love with its people, cultures, and beliefs, which she now depicts in novels. The third book in the series, The Sacred Impostor, takes her characters south to Mexico.
She says her aim is the same in all her books: to convey core truths and ideas through fiction—to find the edge and take us to it.
Lankford is the founder of NovelPro, an advanced online workshop which has launched writing careers, and is also a literary agent.
