“What do you do with the Word of God once you receive it?”    Matthew 13:1-8

"Learn to be a doer of the Word and not just a hearer of the work"

Parables have been called "earthly stories with a heavenly meaning.  Jesus taught in parables because it gives an advantage to the hearers.   Parables are stories and easier to remember. They give us food for thought, and the desire to study the meaning of what was heard.  Jesus uses things that are familiar to us to tell the story, so that it would be easier for us to understand.

This is a parable about a sower which is a farmer, the seed he sows and how they are received by the soil. The sower in this parable is a famer which is representative of Jesus Christ and His disciple but, a sower is also those who teach, preach, or everyone who share the gospel with other in hopes to lead them to Christ.  This lets us know that all of us are sowers or should be willing to become one.  The greatest commandment given to us by Jesus is Matthew 28:19-20 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost; 20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you; and, lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world. Amen.  The seed is the Word of God.  The soil is the people the hearers of the word. This parable is about the hearers of the word and once they hear what he or she does with it.  This is a parable about four types of soil which represents four types of people.  Four types of soil that the seed fell upon and four different response to what was hear.  And I ask the question “What you do with the word once you received it?”
