"Jesus is coming back"     Rescheduled

The ten virgins were not brides but bridesmaids. The bridesmaids were there to attend to the bride.  The bridegroom is Jesus Christ, and this parable describes His return. In the Old Testament God pictures Himself as the “husband” of Israel, and in the New Testament, Christ is pictured as the bridegroom of the Church. The Church not the building but each individual who belongs to the body of Christ is described in Scripture as the bride of Christ.  The five virgins who had extra oil were the prepared ones, they represent the truly born again who are looking with eagerness to the coming of Christ. They have saving faith and have determined that, whatever occurs, be it lengthy in time or adverse circumstances, when Jesus returns, they will be looking with eagerness. The five virgins without the oil represent false believers who enjoy the benefits of the Christian community without true love for Christ. Those who show up on Sunday just to say they were there. Ever leaning but never conforming to the truth.  They only want God when it convenient or if it fits their agenda. They are more concerned about the party than about longing to see the bridegroom. Their hope is that their association with true believers (“give us some of your oil”) will bring them into the kingdom at the end. They didn’t realize that God looks at the heart.
