The original idea for tonight's conversation came in a discussion a few weeks ago with Matthew Bailey -- our "resident AI expert." "Matt," I said, "we need to do a dedicated program, and soon, regarding the key role AI could play ... WILL play ... in the coming 2024 election ...." Tonight's show is a direct result. When we first kicked all this around, it was weeks before either the "Iowa Caucuses" or, a week later, the first-in-the-nation "New Hampshire Primary"; our initial calls involved theoretically exploring "rogue uses of current AI" -- to stealthily manipulate public opinion, possible "AI interference with actual voting systems," or, the role of "foreign actors" (the Russians ... or Iran!) in shaping American opinion around a host of "hot button campaign issues" -- from "Ukraine," to Gaza ... to the present chaotic state at the US "Southern Boarder." Then, just a couple of days before last Tuesday's New Hampshire Primary, a "robocall" popped up (robocalls are mass automated calls to registered voters, seeking to create "last-minute conversions" out of the still undecided ...). This one came DIRECTLY from President Joe Biden -- forcefully instructing his fellow Democrats to "sit this one out" ... not to "waste their vote in the primary" ... but to "save it for November" .... There was only one thing wrong with the call ... it WASN'T "President Joe Biden!" It was an AI. "Theory" was now FACT. Join us .... Richard C. Hoagland Copyright 2024
