All is not well in Colossae. A heresy is growing that promotes empty ritual, useless asceticism, and false mysticism. In order to encourage the Colossians to hold to the truth, Paul refutes the heresy in a positive way – he shows them who Christ is. Christ as LORD of all gives complete salvation, and He is sufficient for every need. And if Christ is all and in all, then He should be in all we say, do, and think. So Paul encourages the Colossians to pursue a godly lifestyle befitting those whose real life is in Heaven with Christ. Join Pastor Cornelius F. Warren as he teaches. 

Our text, Colossians 4: 2-6, deals with two subjects that probably cause more guilt among believers than any other, namely, prayer and witnessing.  

But my aim is not to add to your guilt. Generally I find guilt to be a lousy motivator. My aim is to give some practical help from our text on how to pray more faithfully and to bear witness more effectively. The connection between these two areas is that a private life of prayer is the foundation for a public life of effective witness.

In private, devote yourself to prayer; in public, be a godly witness for Jesus Christ. In private, we are to be persistent in watchful, thankful prayer. In public, we are to be wise in our conduct and winsome in our words so that we might be effective witnesses of Christ.
