Emerge trains Democratic women to run for office with a seven-month program.
Emerge Virginia is changing the face of Virginia politics by identifying, training and encouraging women to run for office, get elected and to seek higher office. Their intensive, cohort-based six-month training program is unique. As the number of elected Democratic women remains flat or even declines, the need for Emerge’s work is growing.
Virginia became a state in 1788 but has yet to elect a female governor. Despite being more than 50% of the population, currently, less than 18% of Virginia state legislators are women.
A pool of highly qualified Democratic candidates is being left untapped. Too often, women do not see themselves running for office—they assume they aren’t experienced enough or they don’t know where to begin. Emerge Virginia is changing that!
Emerge Virginia is an affiliate of Emerge America, a national organization currently working in 17 states: Arizona, California, Colorado, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Nevada, New Jersey, New Mexico, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Vermont, Virginia, and Wisconsin.
