PBS honors Autism Awareness Month

with Spectrum: A Story of the Mind

Award-winning documentary presents visceral experience of autism

The world needs all kinds of minds.”

— Temple Grandin

Imagine a world where words taste and thoughts feel, where sounds swell with color and leaves on trees change tones visible to the naked eye, where eye contact with another can cause physical pain.

This world, both beautiful and overwhelming, exists for those in the award-winning film Spectrum: A Story of the Mind. The first documentary to explore autism as sensory-based experiences, presenting the positive advantages and difficulties of perceiving the world differently. As Dr. Temple Grandin states in the film, sensory is top priority for autism research.

Produced by Jill Jones and Brent Yontz, Spectrum premieres on PBS stations beginning April 4, 2017 in honor of National Autism Awareness Month. (Check local listings.)

The story is told through a series of character-driven portraits from a diverse group of people on the autism spectrum.

Jill Jones (Producer) is an award-winning producer. Jill works in Los Angeles. Her clients include National Geographic, ESPN Films, Bravo, MTV, Animal Planet, Esquire and ABC. An alumni of the Telluride Film Festival symposium, her work has been screened at international film festivals.
