The Total Tutor Neil Haley will interview Joel Selvin, Author of ALTAMONT.

In ALTAMONT Selvin explores and exposes every detail of rock’s darkest day to capture the full scope of the tragedy and its aftermath—from the excess of the Stones’ hastily planned tour preceding the concert to previously unreported deaths that occurred after the Rolling Stones left the stage that night, no stone goes unturned in Selvin’s investigation. Moving beyond easy explanations, Selvin delves into the powerful musical and cultural forces that left Altamont poised for calamity even before the first performer took the stage.

ALTAMONT is the labored product of thirty years of research and over a hundred interviews with many key players, including the musicians themselves, medical staff, Hells Angels members, the stage crew, and cops. Namely, with help from private investigator Scott Dudek, who as a homicide investigator for the Alameda County Sheriffs, closed the cold case still open on the Meredith Hunter killing at Altamont in 2006. All of which results in an exhaustively researched, impressively comprehensive look at the day that made history.

Native Californian Joel Selvin is an award-winning journalist who has covered pop music for the San Francisco Chronicle since 1970. Selvin co-authored Sammy Hagar’s number-one New York Times bestseller Red, and LA Reid’s Sing to Me. He has also written thirteen other books about pop music, including the bestselling Summer of Love and most recently: Here Comes the Night.
