Considering that Larry Strauss' mother, Charlotte Rae, was arguably the quintessential TV educator, as Mrs. Garrett on the hit series "The Facts Of Life," it should come as no surprise that he would follow a career in inner-city education and become an established author and journalist on the subject.
As debates build on the necessity and dangers of students returning to the classroom, Strauss has been evaluating the situation from all prospectives. Larry Strauss is an award-winning 30-year veteran inner-city high school teacher who has worked with at-risk teenagers and first-generation college-bound students from distressed communities. He has mentored and trained teachers on both coasts. including some who were once in his class, and knows and understands the politics and complexities of school systems, schools, and classrooms.
