With nearly all the votes counted, NBC says Democrat Conor Lamb will win the special election in Pennsylvania’s 18th district over Republican, Rick Saccone. For those who don’t remember this district was represented by Republican Tim Murphy, who resigned after news broke that the pro-life member of Congress urged his mistress to get an abortion. It’s possible Saccone could win but that doesn’t change the dynamics of the 2018 election season.

Thousands of students, emboldened by a growing protest movement over gun violence, stood up in their classrooms on Wednesday and walked out of their schools in a nationwide demonstration, one month after a gunman killed 17 people at a high school in Florida. The 17-minute protests unfolding at hundreds of schools are intended to pressure Congress to approve gun control legislation  10 days before major protests in Washington and elsewhere. Leslie Gibson, a Republican candidate for the state House in Maine, decided it was appropriate to call Emma González, a survivor of the Parkland FL school massacre a "skinhead lesbian" on Twitter. González is the student activist who helped call millions of people to action with her powerful speech in the wake of the massacre.
