Good morning! Today, on The Meter, we will cover the choice of Kamala Harris to be her vice-presidential running mate, Gov. Tim Walz of Minnesota. Walz was chosen over the front-runner Josh Shapiro of Pennsylvania. Many in the press are speculating that Shapiro was passed over because he is Jewish and choosing him would anger the Squad and put the State's of Michigan and Minnesota in the Trump column. Walz is a former teacher, coach, and served 24 years in the MN National Guard. As governor, Watz opened his state to illegal aliens, made it a sanctuary for transgender youth, and supporters the demonstrators during the George Floyd riots in 2020. Questions also risen on Walz's military service claims. Has Harris made the right decision on Walz? Also, in Minnesota this Tuesday, all eyes are on the race between Ilhan Omar and Don Samuels. Omar, an ultra-progressive, a Squad member, is facing a rematch from 2022 where she narrowly beat Samuels. Ilhan Omar is known for her antisemitic statements, stance against Israel, and defunding the police. Samuels served on the Minneapolis City Council, School Board, and most recently was CEO of a non-profit MicroGrants, which gives grants to low income individuals. Samuels has been outspent by Omar but remains close in the polls. How will this affect the progressive wing of the Democrat Party if Samuels scores an upset? Also, the economy is a vital issue in the upcoming election. This past week, the markets tumbled 2,000 on three consecutive trading days before recovering some of the losses before weeks end. A lackluster jobs report and a downward adjustment from the previous month caused the sell off. Kamala Harris has yet to lay out an economic plan but seems to be copying Trump on his no-tips tax plegde. Which campaign is better for the US economy? Please join the discussion at 10AM.
