“Men don’t cry.” So when they're not allowed to cry, they scream. And hit. And stab. And shoot. Why are young men so angry? Perhaps it's time for us to change the cultural belief that it is "manly" to be stoic and show no emotions. It is very unhealthy that men have been allowed to express only one emotion - anger. So, no matter what the real emotion is - fear, hurt, grief, loneliness, sadness, guilt, shame, humiliation, hunger, cold - no matter what the real feelings are, what the world sees from our young men is anger. And they express it with violence. Then they get condemned and punished. What if we took the time to discover the real feelings behind the anger? What if we addressed the hurt and helped to heal the pain? This is the real solution to violence. But we first need to answer the question "Why are young men so angry?"
