Removing Fear: Can America Live Without An Armed Police Force?

Fear. It’s what prompts people to believe there is an “enemy” against whom they must protect themselves. But who really is “the enemy”? Recently revealed racist remarks by millionaire Mr. Ricketts against blacks and Muslims reflect the secret fears that many whites and others harbor, therefore the demand continues forr more police to patrol streets. The police, while operating under the motto of “serve and protect” have evolved in to a terrorizing force in Urban communities, treating all who appear “different” as criminals. America has the highest incarceration rate in the world, yet more police and more prisons have not increased public safety. Is it possible to create a society where citizens are all “self managed” and treated as decent human beings, and there is no longer a need for some people to “police” others? How do we make that happen in our time?
