This is the first of our Political Education classes on The Woman 2 Woman Show, in which we teach the civics lessons that are missing in today's classrooms. Many young people are disillusioned with the political process, especially they participated in the last two elections and didn't see the desired change in their lives that they were hoping for. So why even bother to register to vote? Today, as many in Chicago celebrate the birthday of the first African American Chicago Mayor, Harold Washington, we recall the tremendous campaign that got him elected, which required a massive voter registration drive. Exactly what are the privileges that come with being a registered voter? The year 2020 marks 100 years since women received the power to vote, in 1920 in the United States. Why was it important for women to have a voice in the goverment? How were they treated when they didn't? As we prepare to commemorate the 100 year anniversary of that movement, let's examine the power of the ballot, and why we should be a part of the voting process.
