The start of Football Season 2017 came with a public protest against police brutality, expressed in the quiet symbolic gesture of players kneeling on one knee, rather than standing, at the playing of the National Anthem. A small gesture, yet provocative enough to elicit name calling, threats to players and an urge to boycott the NFL from the President of the United States. This issue has become yet another public confrontation of the ugly roots of racism in America. The question is, will these protests from NFL player bring about the desired results  - namely, the removal of abusive officers from the police force and the prosecution of those committing murders in the name of law enforcement?
