"That's just how children are," some parents will say when they are told their child has been fighting. But adults have a responsibility to demonstrate the highest moral values when it comes to resolving conflicts. The goal must be to end the conflict and to teach our children conflict resolution skills, not just "how to win the fight." What do you do if your child is being bullied? This is where active, unified parenting is critical. Parents, adults, must intervene and help children resolve the conflict between them. Just sending them out the house to face it alone is cowardly and neglectful. If a child, even if they are 17 or 18, is still under your roof, you are responsible for their well being. How do parents reach out to parents of the bully and address the issue? Can people resolve conflicts without turning it into a police matter and involving the criminal justice system? How do you appeal to the humanity in the human being to end a conflict? And how do you intercede if YOUR child is the bully?
