It was a tragic story that made headlines back in 1987, a 33 year old man shot and killed members of his family before turning the gun on himself.  His daughter, only 5 at the time, grew up with the gruesome memories of the crime. Only now, decades later, did she come to realize that this was a case of mental illness. April Warren, author and now filmmaker, examines the personal tragedy ad what it revealed to her as a survivor. Mental illness is so prevalent in the society, and yet people tend to never discuss it, never treat it, and never recognize the trauma that they are living with that cause their own dysfunction. Therapy has apparently been seen as a luxury for the wealthy and not a necessity for the chronically traumatized living in an environment of perpetual violence. For April, her writing and now her upcoming film helps reveal and critically examine the case that has haunted her entire life, a case of untreated mental illness that led to a family tragedy.
