After the Civil War, President Lincoln signed an Executive Order to give land to the newly freed African Americans as reparations for their enslavement. Unfortunately, he was assassinated shortly thereafter and his successor, President Johnson, denied this order. From that time until today,African Americans have been seeking reparations in the form of some kind of compensatory damages from slavery. The Japanese receivied reparations for the damages done from bombing Hiroshima and Nagasaki. The Jews received reparations for the holocaust. Our guest today, young Tom O'Donnell, is presenting the historical case he and his family has been pushing, to urge President Obama to follow in the footsteps of his predecessor, Abraham Lincoln, and, before he leaves office, issue reparations in the form of land to African American decendant of slaves. Can the President to this? Will he do it if the demand from American citizens is great enough? Will enough African Americans believe it can happen?
