By longstanding cultural traditions, men are expected to provide the financial means for the family's maintenance while women work only when necessary or when they want to. But some families choose to reverse the roles, some out of necessity and others by choice. However, when women control, the purse strings, sometimes the balance of power shifts in a way that makes men very uncomfortable. Can a "househusband" still feel like he's the "man of the house" when the woman works outside the home and he stays home and takes care of the children as a full time job? Will this lifestyle, if it ends up long term, eventually destroy the marriage? Or can it work, if all parties agree to the the arrangement? Is a man less of a man if he contributes nothing to the household income?
