Around the country, youth are uprising. Protests of injustice have been intense. Young people are demanding an end to police shootings of unarmed citizens. They are marching, sitting in, "dieting in" and waging economic boycotts. But is anybody registering to vote? Is anybody creating a list of new laws to be introduced and passed into law to change conditions? Has anybody stepped forward to run as the candidate who will replace those who appear apathetic or even hostile to the wishes of the people? Or are we just watching people blow off steam? Protest and empowerment are two different things. In the coming years, elections will have been held and new people will be elected to key positions.
