Entrepreneurship is the engine that drives the American economy. For those that know the story of the old Black Wallstreet in the 1920s, a dollar circulated in the African American community 100 times before it left, making everybody in the community prosperous, and these were people just two generations out of slavery! Our youth have ideas, creativity, and energy. How do we help them manifest that energy into the creation of a thriving business community, with banks, theaters, grocery stores, laundromats, schools, houses of worship, parks, restaurants, and hospitals, all of which African Americans owned and operated in the community known as black Wallstreet? Blacks spend $1.9 trillion per year, comparable to the 9th largest nation in the world. Do we already have the capital we need to finance a thriving community? Columnist Carl West and activist Mama Dee Love discuss, do we need a hand from others to create successful businesse or can we really do it ourselves?
